Profit With Passion

What have Mr. Singh and Muddy Boots got in common?
Time and time again I find myself banging on to the businesses I work with about the power of passion. Often, I think, my pleas fall on deaf ears. Some people find it very difficult to make this equation make sense:
Business + Passion = Profit + Pleasure
It really doesn’t matter who you are or where you work; whether you are a member of a big corporate operation, the owner of a small to medium enterprise, a self-employed professional; put passion in the mix and you have something very special.
And think about this. How many business people have you met who display REAL passion for their work, their company, their product or service?
One thing is for certain; you’ll be able to tell me who they are. You’ll remember them. Why? Maybe because you don’t meet passionate people that often. Maybe because their passion is so infectious, that you can’t not be impressed by it and it imprints itself on your memory.
The other thing I’ve noticed about people who display REAL passion for their business is that they ENJOY what they do. Sure, they have tough times, just like everyone else, but their passion and belief pull them through and make it a lot easier for them to work through the pain. In fact, the passion turns the pain into something to be conquered, even relished.
So, believing this, as I patently do, I had an absolute ball watching the last episode of ‘High Street Dreams’ in which Jo Malone and other retail luminaries help amazing entrepreneurs to invade the high street with their products.
If ever you wanted any proof of the power of passion in business, then take a look at this, http://bbc.co.uk/i/sfk2l/
It is well worth watching; not only is Jo an inspiration, the two fledgling businesses she chooses to help have passion in abundance.
So besides the passion, what other ingredients make up the magical mix of success? Here’s my list:
- Using personality in your brand
- Belief
- Determination
- Drive
- The ability to relinquish control
- Allowing new eyes to look at your business
All of these have their part to play and I’ll be back (as the man said) to explore how you can use them in your own business soon.
